Fletcher is so excited to be at the beach as he’s dazzled by the sun, sea and space. His excitement at finding a rockpool turns to sadness when the tide goes out. Will Little Crab and his new friends be okay?
This week, my #PictureBookFriday had to be the adorable Fletcher and the Rockpool. Not the first in the series, this time Fletcher and Mum are at the beach. Gorgeous illustrations transport us there too as we see Fletcher’s enthusiasm as he explores and meets new friends. However, he panics as he tries to save everything from the rockpool… but does he need to?
As well as the captivating illustrations, Julia’s words are excellent. The language is sophiscated and rich so older children will benefit from this story too. I would definitely use this if I was in KS1 and we had a beach writing theme. For Geography and Science, children can learn about what the beach is like, what lives there and what it needs to survive. A mesmerising, enjoyable read for sure!
