The Secret Society of Very Important Post – Alexandra Page

Just days until the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and as Penny Black prepares to move to London, she and Wishyouwas are summoned by the Royal Postmistress herself to locate an extremely valuable letter, one which is essential to the coronation. Who is behind this shocking theft? Penny and the Sorters will find themselves in a race against time through the streets of London in order to learn the truth…

Wishyouwas remains one of my favourite children’s books (you can find my review here!) so I’m thrilled a sequel, The Secret Society of Very Impossible Post, is finally here. It’s a beautiful, thrilling read, a love letter to the Queen’s coronation in 1953 and the Royal Mail. This new Wishyouwas mystery retains all the heart and charm of its predecessor as Wishyouwas and Penny take on a mission to find the most valuable letter, which has gone missing just before Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation. I loved the fantasy scurrying behind the scenes of such an iconic, historical day whilst also dealing with issues which resonate with readers (in this case, Penny is sadly leaving London but Wishyouwas doesn’t know). It is so enchanting with some great twists too – I read this the entire time with the biggest smile on my face (well, except when we learn someone is in the Great Postbox in the sky!). A perfect bedtime story for fans of The Borrowers, The Secret Society of Very Important Post introduces us to new European friends, a new adventure with a surprising whodunnit and new reasons to fall in love with those kind Sorters and their friends.
